Coaching and Mentoring
Coaching and Mentoring Programme Background and Objectives
As a global organisation with a strong emphasis on self-directed learning, Semrush Inc wanted to explore how coaching and mentoring could support individual growth, engagement, and culture — particularly in a company where formal learning ownership is still evolving. Coaching and mentoring training was implemented to facilitate this process.
The goal was to help participants develop a clearer understanding of what effective coaching and mentoring looks like at Semrush, reflect on their own experiences (both formal and informal), and build confidence in adopting coaching behaviours across the business as part of their training.
Coaching and mentoring training was integral to the long-term learning strategy, with pilot sessions designed to test engagement, format preferences, and cultural resonance across a geographically dispersed workforce.
Programme Overview
Delivered by Impact Factory’s Sheila Neville, the programme invited participants to explore both the mindset and the practical skills behind effective coaching for managers, forming a crucial part of our coaching and mentoring training initiative.
The experience was reflective, supportive, and rich with peer sharing — helping participants see coaching as something they could own, practise, and integrate into their everyday leadership and collaboration, whether they were officially in coaching roles or not.
Participants were encouraged to bring their own stories and perspectives, and preparation questions helped them frame their thinking around:
- What effective coaching and mentoring look like at Semrush
- What they enjoy about developing others
- Times when they’ve benefited from being coached themselves
- Anticipated challenges in fulfilling a coaching or mentoring role
Key Content Areas
- Mindset Shift:
- Coaching and mentoring as everyday skills, not just formal roles. Through coaching and mentoring training, participants learnt to apply these skills informally.

- Supporting Autonomy:
- Helping others find their own answers while offering thoughtful guidance, a crucial aspect of coaching and mentoring training.
Desired Outcomes
