Presentation Skills and Public Speaking
Background & Objectives
The National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) approached us to support their teams in becoming more confident, engaging communicators—particularly when hosting events, speaking publicly, and responding to challenging questions. The goal was to enhance their presentation skills and public speaking abilities.
After a warm and insightful conversation with Alex, we were invited to design a face-to-face pilot programme for delivery in Manchester in March 2025, with the potential to roll out a wider offer across the business.
The key needs identified were:
- Building confidence and authority when speaking
- Handling nerves, imposter syndrome, and off-script moments
- Presenting data clearly and with impact
- Flexing communication style for different audiences
- Navigating political or sensitive discussions.
Programme Overview
Facilitated by Anne Tipton and Paul Hughes, this in-person session was built around high levels of interaction, playfulness, and real-life application. Participants came from various NRLA departments, and the session was designed to create psychological safety, encourage experimentation, and foster a shared learning experience in presentation skills and public speaking.
Participants stepped into the “learning zone” early through energisers and exercises that gently stretched comfort zones. The day was structured around building confidence, crafting compelling openings, managing questions, and refining presentation delivery – anchored in each individual’s communication goals.
